Buck Stove Townsend II Steel Series Vent Free Gas Stove
The Townsend II is Buck's steel-bodied vent-free gas stove: 32,000 BTUs at 99.9% efficiency, with DX18 gas logs and a remote-ready millivolt valve. Vent-free means no chimney, no flue and no liner — it burns cleanly enough to vent into the room, so it installs against a wall wherever the gas line reaches.
The body is heat-absorbent steel, so the stove itself becomes a radiating surface rather than just a housing. A top grill inlay is standard. Choose Black, Gray or Vintage Copper, in natural gas or liquid propane.
Replaces the Hepplewhite. The Townsend II is Buck's current steel series stove; the Hepplewhite it replaces is no longer made.
Built by Buck Stove in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Buck Stove has made stoves in the USA since 1975.

Questions buyers ask
Do I need a chimney?
No. Vent-free stoves need no chimney, flue or liner — only a gas supply and clearance to combustibles per the manual. Some states and cities restrict vent-free appliances, so confirm your local code first.
What does 99.9% efficient mean here?
Nothing goes up a flue, so essentially all the heat stays in the room. That is the defining advantage of a vent-free appliance over a vented one.
Is the blower included?
No — the Townsend II takes an optional blower motor, listed above, which can be added after installation.
Is this the Hepplewhite?
The Townsend II is its replacement. Same idea — a steel-bodied vent-free stove — in Buck's current 2026 line.
