Buck Stove Model ZC74C (74ZC) Zero Clearance Catalytic Wood Burning Fireplace
The ZC74C is Buck Stove's 2026 catalytic replacement for the 74ZC: the Model 74C firebox built into a zero-clearance cabinet, so it frames directly into a wall in new construction or a remodel instead of needing an existing masonry fireplace. It carries the 74C's ratings: 1,500-2,600 square feet, an EPA tested output of 13,300-52,400 BTUs per hour, a 2.7 cubic foot firebox, 77% efficiency and 1.7 grams per hour, with the blower and ash pan included.
What changed from the 74ZC: a catalytic combustor (77% efficiency and 1.7 g/h, against 73% and 1.8 g/h), a larger 2.7 cubic foot firebox (was 2.15), an ash pan added, and a black door only.
Gold and pewter doors on this page are the previous-generation Model 74ZC (FP ZC74G gold, FP ZC74P pewter) from Tri-State's remaining stock, not a ZC74C. Buck's 2026 line is black door only. The Model 74ZC is the non-catalytic stove with a 2.15 cubic foot firebox and no ash pan; it ships while closeout stock lasts, at the price shown when you select it.

Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between the 74C and the ZC74C?
Same firebox and the same 1,500-2,600 square foot rating. The ZC74C comes in a zero-clearance cabinet that is framed into a wall; the Model 74C is a freestanding stove or masonry insert.
What rough opening does it need?
Buck's 2026 catalog lists minimum framing of 37-1/2" W x 35-7/8" H x 24-3/4" D, with 30-1/2" to a mantel and 26" to a sidewall, plus a hearth extension of at least 16" in front. Confirm against the cabinet manual before framing.
Does it need its own circuit?
Yes. Buck specifies a 15 A dedicated circuit for the blower.
Which Buck do I need for my square footage?
Buck rates the Model 21 and 21ZC for 800-1,800 sq ft, the 74C and ZC74C for 1,500-2,600, the 81C for 1,600-2,700 and the Model 91 for 1,800-3,200. Does the federal wood-stove tax credit apply?
No. The federal 25C credit for biomass stoves ended for stoves placed in service after December 31, 2025, so a stove installed in 2026 does not qualify, whoever sells it. Some retailers still advertise it. State, county and utility change-out rebates are separate and worth checking. This is not tax advice.
