Buck Stove Close Clearance Shields
If the stove will not fit where you want it, this is usually the part that solves it. Close clearance shields let a freestanding Buck stove sit substantially closer to a combustible wall — on the Model 74C, Buck's 2026 catalog lists 8" to a rear wall without shields and 4" with shields and double-wall pipe. On the 81C the difference is 23" rear down to 16".

Questions buyers ask
Do I need double-wall pipe as well?
For the 21 and 74C, Buck's tested close-clearance figures assume shields and double-wall pipe. The 81C is tested with shields and single-wall pipe. Match the combination in the manual or the clearances do not apply.
Can I add them later?
Yes, but measure first — it is much easier to plan the hearth around the final clearance than to move a 450 lb stove afterwards.
