Buck Stove Model 21 (21NC) Non-Catalytic Wood Stove
Model 21NC can be used as a fireplace insert with an optional insert kit, a pre-fab insert, or as a freestanding unit with the optional pedestal or steel legs. It is Buck Stove's compact non-catalytic stove for zone heating: 800-1,800 square feet with an EPA tested output of 11,079-28,901 BTUs per hour, a 1.6 cubic foot firebox, and the blower included.
The door is available in black (FP 21), or in gold (FP 21G) and pewter (FP 21P) from Tri-State's closeout stock: Buck's 2026 line is black door only, so the gold and pewter doors ship while stock lasts. Same stove, different door finish. The gold and pewter doors are priced at Tri-State's closeout price for the discontinued finishes ($2,798 against $2,191 for black), so black is the better buy unless you want the finish.
Built by Buck Stove in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Buck Stove has made stoves in the USA since 1975.

Questions buyers ask
How big a room does it heat?
Buck rates the Model 21NC for 800-1,800 square feet. It is the smallest wood stove in the Buck line and the right pick for a single zone or a small home.
Insert or freestanding?
Both. As an insert it needs a fireplace opening of at least 23-1/4" W x 21" H x 15" D and a trim kit. Freestanding, it sits on the Outside Air Pedestal, the Woodbox Pedestal or steel legs on a hearth pad of at least 33" W x 40" D.
Is the blower included?
Yes. Buck Stove ships the Model 21NC with the blower.
Which Buck do I need for my square footage?
Buck rates the Model 21 and 21ZC for 800-1,800 sq ft, the 74C and ZC74C for 1,500-2,600, the 81C for 1,600-2,700 and the Model 91 for 1,800-3,200. A drafty older house lands at the low end of a range, a tight modern house at the high end. Call (708) 765-6925 with your square footage and we will size it with you.
Does the federal wood-stove tax credit apply?
No. The federal 25C credit for biomass stoves ended for stoves placed in service after December 31, 2025, so a stove installed in 2026 does not qualify, whoever sells it. Some retailers still advertise it. State, county and utility change-out rebates are separate and worth checking. This is not tax advice.
