Buck Stove Model 91 Catalytic Wood Stove
The Model 91 catalytic is Buck Stove's most popular selling wood stove. Used as a masonry fireplace insert or freestanding, this unit accepts logs up to 23" and heats up to 3,200 square feet with 14,206-62,745 BTUs per hour. Features include a factory-installed blower, high-efficiency heat exchange, ash removal tray, and an oversized glass door with air wash system that helps keep soot and creosote off the glass.
The door is available in black (FP 91), or in gold (FP 91G) and pewter (FP 91P) from Tri-State's closeout stock: Buck's 2026 line is black door only, so the gold and pewter doors ship while stock lasts. Same stove, different door finish. The gold and pewter doors are priced at Tri-State's closeout price for the discontinued finishes ($4,797 against $4,047 for black), so black is the better buy unless you want the finish. Side windows come in standard black; gold and pewter side windows are the bay window kits below, also closeout.
Built by Buck Stove in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Buck Stove has made stoves in the USA since 1975.

Questions buyers ask
Insert or freestanding?
Both. As an insert it needs a fireplace opening of at least 31-3/4" W x 23-1/2" H x 15-1/2" D and a trim kit to close the gap. Freestanding, it sits on the optional pedestal or steel legs and needs a hearth pad of 50" W x 54" D.
What flue size does it use?
8". The 8" Chimney Connector lets the stove accept a flexible chimney liner in a masonry chimney, and the 8" Offset Adapter handles a rear or offset exit.
Is the blower included?
Yes. The variable speed blower is factory installed on the Model 91.
Which Buck do I need for my square footage?
Buck rates the Model 21 and 21ZC for 800-1,800 sq ft, the 74C and ZC74C for 1,500-2,600, the 81C for 1,600-2,700 and the Model 91 for 1,800-3,200. A drafty older house lands at the low end of a range, a tight modern house at the high end. Call (708) 765-6925 with your square footage and we will size it with you.
Does the federal wood-stove tax credit apply?
No. The federal 25C credit for biomass stoves ended for stoves placed in service after December 31, 2025, so a stove installed in 2026 does not qualify, whoever sells it. Some retailers still advertise it. State, county and utility change-out rebates are separate and worth checking. This is not tax advice.
